Teaching Graduate Students
Public History is working late, getting your hands dirty, and taking care of business.
As the Associate Director of the Reid Institute of Public History at UNLV, I collaborate with almost comically diverse range of community parters—retired showgirls, preservation-minded politicians, fanatical costume collectors, well-trained curators, and even a celebrity or two. It is Vegas, after all.
Our cadre of MA and PhD students serve at the front lines of these projects. Our program integrates the issues connected to our region into the training of public historians. Our goal: to preserve our history. Finding inspiration in our backyard, we actively engage with our diverse community to connect our research to regional and national publics.
